The winger and the Los Angeles Kings have agreed on a new eight-year, $85-million contract, according to multiple reports Sunday. The pact runs through 2033-34.
Kempe, 29, reportedly took a little less money to stay in Los Angeles, where he thinks he can lift Lord Stanley's Cup. The Swede has played every one of his 10 seasons with the Kings since being drafted in the first round in 2014.
Kempe has led the Kings in scoring in each of the past two seasons. He again leads Los Angeles with 19 points through 19 games.
Kempe's decision to remain in Southern California is another blow to the 2026 free agent class, which has already seen Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Kirill Kaprizov and Martin Necas re-sign with their respective clubs over the past two months.
